When this book came out several years ago, I heard many, many great things about it. So I gladly bought it when I saw it in the bargain bin of a local bookstore. Arriving home, I dove right in. Immediately, one is struck with the sense that this is going to be a great novel. It is well written, perfectly narrated, and difficult to put down. Moreover, the story tackles issues that could very easily veer out of control (namely, the murder of a child and the afterlife). But, they never do. Despite its grim foundation, The Lovely Bones was a pleasure to read.
