The Beautiful in Books

A fine enthusiasm for old books, for fine books, for beautiful books, will be one stimulus which can generally be indulged in with ease and with safety…If our heads of libraries will endevour to show what they have of beautiful , rare, and costly volumes and bindings, and will at the same time encourage on the part of their assistants a devotion to the beautiful in books, we shall all of us have taken a long step forward in the direction of  a larger and truer librarianship.
