Just a quick note about what I’m reading. Perhaps I’ll review one or more of these later.
To begin: after obsessing over George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire epic, awesome mega-series and constantly checking his Not a Blog for any hint regarding the release of The Winds of Winter, I have recently plowed through his short stories related to the same series – the Tales of Dunk and Egg. Three stories set about 90 years before the events of Game of Thrones. All the boiled leather, treachery and jousting you could hope for.
In honor of Banned Books Week (which was several weeks ago actually), I am reading one of the few books to be actually censored by the US government – D.H. Lawrence’s Lady Chatterley’s Lover. Warning: Her lover is not her husband. Also, this book contains words that real people say during and/or describing the physical act of love. It might make you blush.
After really enjoying The Marriage Plot earlier this year, I decided to read another work by Jeffery Eugenides. So, I picked up a copy of The Virgin Suicides. I need to figure out how exactly to say this guy’s last name so I don’t feel like a fool talking about him to library patrons.
